Challenges Faced At YODA

YODA (Youth Organization in Defence of Animals) has been fighting the silent battle that over 100 injured or abandoned animals face every month in the busy urban landscapes of Mumbai. Since its founding in 2010, YODA has changed to confront issues head-on while still focusing on awareness-raising.

Established in Khar West, Mumbai, in 2017, YODA's Shelter provides a haven for animals in need of care, staffed by commitment, a group of veterinarians and behaviourists. Within 25 days, the R3 program guarantees prompt rehabilitation, release, or rehoming. However, difficulties continue.

Obstacles persist due to a lack of resources, such as shelter and medical supplies. It takes rapid crisis management to respond to distress calls in real time in Mumbai's chaotic streets. There is still a barrier to public understanding despite awareness campaigns. Advocating for animal rights becomes even more challenging when one must navigate legal nuances.

The struggles faced by YODA demonstrate the tenacity needed to protect Mumbai's street animals, highlighting the importance of cooperation and support in overcoming these obstacles.
